ECOMONDO Fair and best practices, small municipalities at the ALTERENERGY workshop

Three small municipalities - Brisighella (RA) Castrocaro Terme e Terra del Sole (FC) and Monchio delle Corti (PR) – have been in the middle of the presentation of regional best practices on the topic of energy efficiency savings at the Alterenergy International Workshop held in Rimini during Ecomondo Fair.

Through the results of Alterenergy Project, funded by the IPA Adriatic Cross-border Programme 2007-2013, the Emilia Romagna Region has presented the best practices and regional instruments  and provided information for  the generation of smart communities on the saving and energy efficiency issue with a look at the tools and opportunities of the new programming period 2014-2020.

The speeches have devoted particular attention to the instruments for the next generation of intelligent small communities deepening the management model for small communities and the next generation of smart interventions to support policies to increase efficiency and energy savings.

In line with the guidelines of the Europe 2020 of smart, sustainable and inclusive growth and smart regional specialization it has been focused  the role of the central government for the economic and social development and for the new generation of "smart communities" in the broad sense, not only agglomeration of large and medium size but also "urban sprawl" and "smart areas" through the aggregation of small municipalities.

The initiative has also revealed how important is the integration of funds in the local territorial development, the best cases have highlighted the added value of integration between the funds dedicated to the European territorial cooperation, funds for national development and cohesion  2007 -2013 and the European agricultural fund for rural development in the implementation of the interventions presented.

Also this year Ecomondo, with the presence of 90.000 workers, has confirmed the event industry's leading environmental becoming not only the technological platform on the economy of the future, with particular attention to the main European and international strategies on eco innovation, but also a platform for qualified education and information, in particular for the Mediterranean area.

The Mediterranean area and the Adriatic-Ionian macro-region are particular important as the main region of the Strategy of the European Union officially launched in June of this year that will provide new opportunities for the growth of the maritime economy through main development axes "blue growth", land-sea transport, connectivity in  energy sector, marine environment protection and sustainable tourism. The best-case presented by the three municipalities involved through the implementation of measures for energy efficiency and the strategic planning of regional interventions represented the reference model on which connect new innovative actions in terms of growth and development of the territory.
