Sustainable Urban Development Projects: the Urban Innovative Actions first call

The Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy has announced the first call of the Urban Innovative Actions. Between January and February 2016, the European Commission will be holding four information events across the EU (Brussels, Riga, Rome and Krakow) in order to inform cities and relevant stakeholders about the call (deadline: 31 March 2016).

Urban Innovative Actions have been created to fund projects which test innovative solutions for sustainable urban development. The aspiring projects should be submitted through calls for proposals and each call will be dedicated to a selection or urban topics. The total budget is EUR 371 Mio over the period 2015-2020.

This first UIA call will be worth EUR 80 Mio in total and will be focused on the following four topics: energy transition; urban poverty (with a focus on deprived urban neighborhoods); the inclusion of migrants and refugees; jobs and skills in the local economy.

UIA looks for ambitious and concrete projects based on 5 criteria: innovativeness, partnership, measurability of results and outputs, transferability and quality. Innovative ideas should be able to involve key stakeholders, to be realistic but also applicable and replicable by other organizations throughout Europe.

The first information event will be held in Brussels on January 13th 2016. You can already register here.
