Reference Framework for Sustainable Cities: Commissioner Hahn's keynote speech

During the “Open Days 2013”, Commissioner for Regional Policy Jo hannes Hahn delivered in Brussels the keynote speech “Towards Sustainable Cities in Europe” at the Reference Framework for Sustainable Cities (RFSC) Conference. The RFSC is an interactive web-tool designed with cities in mind which aims to help them promote and enhance their work on integrated sustainable urban development. It was launched on 28th January 2013.

French Minister of Territorial Equality and Housing Cécile Duflot (via video link) and Jean-Marc Michel Director General at the French Ministry of Territorial Equality and Housing spoke about their experience with RFSC in France and Harald Herrmann, Director and Professor at the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) shared his experiences with RFSC in Germany.

The RFSC website was successfully launched for the free-use of European cities on the 28th January 2013. As of the end of September 2013, 405 accounts have been created – 113 of which are city authorities. The others are universities, organisations, individuals etc. The tool is now available in 18 EU languages and the remaining EU languages are expected to go-live in the near future.
