Transformation of the energy sector and opportunities for the development, seminar in Rijeka

The Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and the Regional Energy Agency Kvarner have organized in the City Hall of Rijeka, on 6th February 2014, the seminar entitled "Energy Sector Transformations and the Emerging Opportunities for Local Renewable Energy SMEs", within the Alterenergy Project in which Primorje-Gorski Kotar County participates along other 17 partners from 8 Adriatic countries.

The purpose of the project "Alterenergy" is to provide the conditions for sustainable development of the Adriatic area based on the criteria of sustainable energy and greater use of renewable energy. The seminar was intended primarily for small and medium-sized enterprises operating in the County of Primorje-Gorski Kotar, but also for representatives of local and regional government, building`s managers, academia, professionals from the banking and investment sector, consultants, and all interested citizens who wanted to learn more about the possibilities in using renewable energy sources (RES), with a special emphasis on legal and institutional framework, development and innovation of new technologies and the possibilities of financing renewable energy projects on the regional, national and European level.

Opening the event, County President Zlatko Komadina said that Primorje-Gorski Kotar County has good prospects for the development of solar and wind energy. A steady increase in energy prices and the fact that conventional energy sources are limited,  influences evolution of citizens and authorities awareness of energy saving and environmental protection. There is a growing interest and need for renewable energy sources in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, and the effects are multiple: from impact on environment, new job-creation and increase of the competitiveness of domestic industry, pointed out County President Zlatko Komadina.
